Our History
Diane E. Sumpter created DESA in 1986, when she realized that her business and management know-how could help construction projects run more efficiently.
In the more than 21 years since, DESA has earned a sterling reputation for creating business development opportunities and managing operations. All the while, Sumpter continues to fulfill her mission as an advocate for small, minority and women-owned businesses.
Sumpter, singled out by BellSouth for inclusion in their African-American History Calendar, told them that being an entrepreneur has been a journey. "You're walking it daily and you don't even know what the day is going to bring, but you're prepared for that. You surround yourself with people who help you get through it," she said.
Sumpter's company has grown from a staff of one to a team of more than 35 - a team that oversees multiple sites across the country every day.
Despite its impressive growth, DESA still reflects Sumpter's passion and dedication to her clients and business - the inspiration behind DESA from day one.
