Bethel-Hanberry School Construction
"I would like to commend DESA and its construction management team for the outstanding work they performed at Bethel-Hanberry Elementary School. As a result of their efforts, our construction project was completed on time and was a success largely due to the attention we received from DESA."
--Dr. Felix Figueroa
Principal, Bethel-Hanberry Elementary School
The Assignment:
Manage the renovation and construction of Bethel-Hanberry Elementary School which was originally built in 1954. The project included renovating classrooms and bathrooms, installing new HVAC systems for classrooms, enlarging the cafeteria, adding 2 new kindergarten classrooms and walkway covers.
Challenges:
Students had to be relocated while classrooms were upfitted with new plumbing, HVAC and interior finishes.
How DESA Exceeded Expectations:
- Temporary classrooms were used to house students. DESA worked closely with the school staff to develop a phasing plan to minimize disruption to the students.
- The project was completed early, reducing the time that the portable classrooms were needed to 12 months.
- Each phase of the renovation was scheduled to avoid critical testing dates and minimize impact to the kindergarten and first grade.
