DESA Announces Staff's August Achievements!

Cliff Wilson has recently become DESA's new qualifying party for our Construction Management certification through the South Carolina Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation (LLR).  Cliff has received his Mechanical Contractors License and subsequently helped DESA obtain its Mechanical Construction Management Certificate.  This is a significant accomplishment for the Construction Management Division, and congratulations to Cliff for all his hard work!
 
We have more good news coming from the Construction Management Division---Johnny Lloyd has completed the requirements to become a Certified Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control Inspector.  This new certification will allow Johnny to conduct the inspections that a hired engineer would normally do, which will save future projects the cost of hiring an outside inspector.  Congratulations and thanks to Johnny for helping DESA stay competitive in the construction management arena!
 
Congratulations to the SCMBEC and Houston's Enterprise Catering Service for being chosen to receive the top honor at this year's MED Week celebration in Atlanta, GA.  The SCMBEC nominated the Houston's for Minority Service Contractor of the Year, and the selection committee was so impressed with their story, they instead honored them with the Southeastern Regional Director's Award.  The Houston's will be honored this weekend in Atlanta, GA, beginning Sunday, 8/19 at the Atlanta Braves Game, followed by an award luncheon at the Atlanta Marriott Marquis Hotel, Monday, 8/20 at noon.  Following those events, the SCMBEC will host it's own MED Week celebration on Monday, September 10th, at First Citizens Bank from 6:30-8:30 p.m.  In addition to honoring the Houston's, the SCMBEC will honor the City of Columbia, Ed Sellers of BlueCross BlueShield, and the South Carolina Legislative Black Caucus.
