Local students, Sylvia Vickers and Desmond Brown, have both recently accepted $1,000 college scholarships from DESA, Inc.

Vickers is a graduating senior from Spring Valley High School. She has been accepted at Lander University in Greenwood, SC, and will begin this fall as a psychology major. She plans to pursue a career in psychiatric healthcare.

Brown is a graduating senior from Airport High School. He will be attending Clark Atlanta University in Atlanta, GA, and will begin this fall as a business major. Afterwards, Brown intends to pursue law school.

DESA is a local business firm that has been advocating for higher education for nearly a quarter century. "Over the 24 years that we've been in business, I can't remember a time that we weren't advocating for education in some way or manner," said Diane Sumpter, president and chief executive officer for DESA.

"There is no reason why we shouldn't be supporting young adults in their educational endeavors. Sylvia and Desmond are both exceptional examples of what our future represents, and DESA fully supports their educational choices," Sumpter concluded.
