Haitian Relief Efforts

The people of Haiti desperately need your help.

It's been estimated that the 7.0 magnitude earthquake that recently hit Haiti has caused the loss of 50,000-75,000 lives, and injured so many more. Additionally, as many as half of the buildings in the country's capital Port-au-Prince and other hard hit areas were damaged or destroyed.

Your friends at DESA wanted to reach out and ask that you help the many Haitians in need. A donation as litte as $5.00 can provide assistance to numerous Haitians that have lost everything. To give monetary donations, choose from the following:

• American Red Cross. By cell phone, text: HAITI to 90999. This will send $10 to the Red Cross relief effort and you'll be billed by your carrier in your monthly statement. You can also go online to www.redcross.org or call 800-RED-CROSS.

• Church of God Ministries. Donate to the Disaster Relief Fund (project 45.04502) at www.chog.org by clicking on the disaster relief icon on the homepage.

• Direct Relief International. Donate online at www.directrelief.org.

• Haitian Yele. Text: 501501 and $5 will be sent to Wyclef Jean's Haitian Yele charity. The amount will appear on your next bill.

• Mercy Corps. Visit www.mercycorps.org or call 888-256-1900.

• UNICEF. Go online to www.unicefusa.org/haitiquake or call 800-4-UNICEF.

• United Way. Visit www.liveunited.org, or call 866-404-5826.

If you are not in the position to give financial donations, we urge you to help in other ways:

• Give blood. Give blood at your local Red Cross and ask that it be used in the Haiti relief efforts.

Offer support. Connect and provide personal support of Haitian families in the USA who are looking for relatives in Haiti.

• Donate your Delta SkyMiles. You can donate your Delta Air Lines SkyMiles to transport CARE aid workers to Haiti by visiting www.care.org/donate/skymiles.asp.

Please remember that taxpayers may claim a deduction on their 2009 taxes for donations to relief efforts in Haiti. Won't you help make a difference in the lives of so many?
